Steam I have a suggestion
A lot of people don't use credit cards or debit cards for purchases what you could do UK wise is make it so buying Steam Gift vouchers requires you to be 18 to purchase. That way it bides by the UK new laws. Cause when you purchase stuff like wine or something you give ID so like a passport or drivers license. You make it so Gift cards are 18 it's then down to PARENTS to know what there kids buy then you can implement if you buy a Steam voucher you have a week window to purchase what you want when it's redeemed until it's then reset until you put on another steam gift voucher. That will be abides by the Law and then its only Parental error.

Valve locking out UK only wallet cards to 18+ only still wouldn't make the UK law not be what it is.

There are no valve / steam employees or staff, server techs, steam support, or moderators in this steam related sub-forum. No one in this USER - USER only sub-forum can help you with your off topic rant

They would still have to verify you are 18+ or they are not following the law.

I’d like to know how adults go through life without a credit card, since it one of many ways to improve your credit status.

Easily tbh. I don't know anyone with a credit card, I have zero intention of getting one. We pay our mortgage and have never even considered getting a credit card as we've seen how people fall into debt with them.

Children routinely acquire tobacco and alcohol, because there are adults that will buy it for them. What you are suggesting would be no different. Steam asking for a credit card is almost foolproof. The name will need to match the steam account, and adults will be less likely to use their name.

Valve has effectively gone with the very best solution. For ensuring that kids can't worm their way around it. There's no intermediary to bribe, no technology to manipulate, nothing they can steal. Any stolen card number will cause police involvement.

Remember the intent of the law is to keep children from accessing the content, and to keep bad actors from gaining access to the children through that content. If it's causing you such grief it's stopping children and their would be abusers dead in their tracks.

Valves solution is the correct solution. A lot of these folks playing the victim. Are almost certainly on the registry, and it isn't that they can't get a card, but that they can't use the card here. Since they're not supposed to be here. They desperately need something that they can exploit.

Well there has to a better option cause i don't use credit cards. when ever i want something go to the bank go to the woman behind the glass say how i want hand over my card and ID. boom i have money for the day. I don't trust having my credit card info on steam. No offence Steam. So there needs to be an alternative option email age, account age and like i stated before making gift cards 18 to purchase.

So dumb.

There are other ID checks they could have implemented. There are 2 main arguments against the credit card checks:
1. Tens of millions of UK adults do not want to have a credit card
2. There are many people in the UK who do not qualify to have a credit card, either due to bad past credit, or due to being on benefits such as disability.

Valve's implementation is absolutely flawed. In fact, every implementation will be flawed as the OSA itself is fundamentally unworkable. But this credit card check is particularly flawed for its discriminating nature (which itself breaks the OSA terms).

Ultimately, if a kid wants access they can just borrow their parent's credit card. Or use a VPN and purchase the game from another country. Or buy on the grey market. Or maybe get the game gifted by some stranger on Discord, maybe for a favour or two. Or just pirate it.

So dumb.
I just sent a ticket because I don't own a credit card, I never have done. I've never needed 1. I'm on disability and I struggle daily. I have an account that's over 14 or + years old and I got response saying they'll send it to the team but we have to provide a credit card. What the feck. Well, piracy is coming back if they UK are screwing us up constantly like this. Debit Cards should be a source of verification too if you go to a bank and have it all set up that way.
Im 40, i have never owned a credit card and do not want one. (i dont think i can even get one with my current financial sitation!). This system is absurb and its gonna drive me away from doing steam purchases in future (yes i have passport etc which is the USUAL way to verify age in the UK).

Im genuinely extremely annoyed from this step valve have taken and they will be loosing a customer if they dont change it.

Debit cards are not valid forms of identification that are listed for use.
