Those of that use PayPal to make purchases do so because it is much safer, there must be a way that PayPal can be use to check the credit card?

You need to be 18 in the UK to open a PayPal account so it is bewildering how Valve could not do a regional thing for the UK where if you save your PayPal info then that's you verified you are over 18.
I was just trying to view my discovery queue when the verification notification comes up, there were actually pretty violent games coming up in the queue before that it didn't even apply to apparently, I've actually got pornographic content tags blocked so I think they have a real problem here they need to address on multiple levels.

What annoys me about this is that I view the discovery queue for a reason, I have found some games there that are real indie gems that I would never have found otherwise.
It doesn't apply to violent games *for now*.
It absolutely will in the future. Mark my words.

It is obvious this was rushed and likely due to a threat from Ofcom threatening fines I still see explicit adult games on my store page yet I cannot view them which is pretty telling this was a rushed panic.

I have been told some LGBT games were being blocked as well in the UK which urgh...The last thing I want is a company like Valve who protected freedom of expression bending down to homophobia.

Agreed.
The sociopolitical implication here are a mine field so I'm staying well clear, I just want my payment method to be safe at this point.

All Valve need to do is add more forms of verification that are not as invasive as they think such as Open Banking Verification, Mobile network verification or they could build their own system.

Lets hope they get more solid systems in place.
It has nothing do do with age verification or protecting children. You really think the government care about that? It's to keep tabs on you, jut like everything else the enemy does for your 'protection'.

Yes we know but it does not change the fact Valve screwed up.

I am worried they are going to ignore this and if this spreads to games like COD or GTA then Valve could see potential sales damage in the UK or indie developers from the UK just refusing to release their games on Steam.
The AAA market is in enough trouble as it is right now without adding additional problems to the mix.
