The inconvenience over entertainment warrants international sanctions? I would say it's a stretch, but I don't think there's a material stretchy enough to make the analogy work.
It's not an unreasonable request - to show you are an adult before you buy porn.
I wouldn't make too much noise if I were you, Republicans are likely to take the side of the UK on this. They are all for family values, and this is what it's all about.
You are woefully ignorant yet spouting your opinions. Shameful.
Sanction and block? Is the UK at war? The answer is no.
What is the exact reason for it? Child protection regarding pornography. Is that wrong?
It's not just porn though.
Spotify require age verification to listen to certain songs, and if you don't comply, they will delete your account.
Xbox will require all users to verify their age to use their social features in 2026.
Social media sites are blocking content that isn't even porn related.
Steam are asking for age verification (through credit/debit cards) to access adult themed content, which doesn't necessarily have any porn in it.
People have already dug through code to find that Rockstar are planning to add age verification in the the future.
Youtube are rumoured to be doing the same, which is weird, because they already had age verification in Europe AND they don't allow porn on the site anyway.
Twitch will no doubt be forced to do it in the future seeing as they are essentially a soft core porn site at this point.
The worst part is that these companies are asking us to hand over sensitive data we have never heard of that hasn't built up any trust. Spotify for example say we need to verify our age through a third company called Yoti. So I am expected to hand my sensitive data to a company I never heard of with a name that sounds like something I would expect from a scam company? There is no way I am signing up to that, and it's absurd that this is being forced on us.
If you think this is a porn ban, then you're just plain wrong.
Read my reply above, it's not about protecting children from porn, it never was. "Protect the kids" has been a government tactic to force through laws since before any of us were born.
Also, it's the PARENTS job to look after their children. Why should I have to suffer because of shoddy parenting? I'm in my 30's, I didn't become an adult to be treated like a child, it's insulting.
EDIT: And here's a bit of a contradiction for you. We have adult tv channels that are completely free to watch in the UK. If this was all about protecting kids from porn, why aren't all of those channels put behind a paywall? Because it's all a lie, it's all about controlling what you see online.
Credit cards are only given to people over 18.
It is only to access porn (so called mature games). It does not affect standard 18 games.
What is unclear about that?
What's unclear about that?
I'm talking about Steam, not Spotify or whatever. Yes, it includes "adult themes" like self-harm, suicide and things that would be classed as mature, but that's hardly relevant to Steam.
There is no way this is going to change. Age Verification is widely supported by the public. Sure, it's a loss of rights, and there will be some companies taking advantage of it, and people using VPN's and so on, but it's here to stay.
Entirely up to Valve. They could have done that. There are loads of things they could have done, but they didn't. I guess the UK "mature" market (I'll call it that since everyone objected to me calling it porn) just isn't worth any more effort on their part.
Ultimately this is Valves fault. They should never have sold mature games to people without some form of age verification of their own. They should have been responsible. They weren't. Now there is a mess.
