Toss your tea into the sea.
So my fellow gamers on the other side of the pond, reading about the age verification system that has come to steam gave me inspiration to write a short protest song. Your anger is misplaced if you are focusing on Steam/Valve. They are simply complying with the law., people's ire should be focused on the ones who made the law in the first place.

Britons Toss Your Tea Into the Sea

They say you need papers to walk through the door,
Proof of your years just to browse as before.
But freedom’s not measured by numbers they keep,
It’s found in the people who rise from their sleep.

Britons, toss your tea into the sea,
We did it once, now join in with me.
Refuse the chains dressed up as ID,
Stand up online, let your voices run free.

A harbor once echoed with crates in the tide,
Now the waves call your courage to stand side by side.
No tax on your spirit, no guard at the gate,
The net should be open, not ruled by the state.

Britons, toss your tea into the sea,
We did it once, now join in with me.
Refuse the chains dressed up as ID,
Stand up online, let your voices run free.

The world is still watching, your voices resound,
From Boston to Bristol, let freedom be found.
Lift up your banners, your song and your say,
The tide of tomorrow is rolling today.

Britons, toss your tea into the sea,
We did it once, now join in with me.
Refuse the chains dressed up as ID,
Stand up online, let your voices run free.

This is actually pretty good. Maybe you should make a career of this. I also agree that age verification is an odd thing for Steam to add. I get the legal obligations but age verification won't stop children from viewing porn. It's never worked before and most porn sites have an age verification technically built into their site. Problem is, they can be disabled. So whats the point?

As a Celt from the Southwest, I applaud!

I love me tea though. Tea in the sea would make me cry. I'm happy with throwing all politicians in the sea instead.

But cool stuff man.

Well of course Englishmen love your tea, that is the entire point. A modern day "Boston Tea party" (I guess Bristol tea party?) like America did 2.5 centuries ago to protest the laws the British were imposing on the Colonies. Only now it is the citizens themselves making a symbolic gesture of defiance against parliament. I mean I know there is that wave of painting the English flag or waving the union jack.... but as I recall that movement is more focused on the Immigrant problem... anyways There is little that we outside the borders can do, except provide moral support.

According to another person from the UK it is kind of hard to vote this out because parties on both the left and right want the ID law (I assume for different reasons), but I am sure with enough pressure from the populous one of the parties may change their position... but then again what do I know I'm just an American, my knowledge of the inner workings of your political system is pretty bad :P

What I do know however is silent acceptance will just lead to further draconian laws restricting freedoms more.
