Question about after the CC verification for UK users
So lets assume i do the whole CC verification, jump through all the hoops and loops because law, yada yada yada, i hate it as much as everyone, but ho hum.

Once a CC is registered to your account, would you be able to access the community hub/discussions/forums on the effected games? What i refer to is games that you do NOT own on your account/library.

Because lets assume a game is coming out soon but is flagged for reasons, i get curious and want to ask about it in the forums etc, would i be able to access it, or will it still be blocked until i purchase the game in question?

Because if that is the latter, then that is concerning, since you would be gambling with your money on what could potentially be a problem product, that you couldn't get any information about beforehand.

If people have they CC all sorted and know the answer to this, that would be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Purchase isn't necessary to see the forums, you just need a credit card on file.

So once your credit card is linked/registered to your account, you can then see the forums again?
yes
Thank you very much, been trying to get a answer to this, but people kept getting in a uproar over debit cards and other verification that my question kept getting drowned out. Granted sure, they are right to be upset, heck i'm upset too, but i'm going to not let it drag me down. We make do with what we can, and then vote for change in the future, simple as.

Again thank you for your time~ (7^_^)7
Welp, my bubble has just burst.

Firstly, i'm hearing that even if people has registered their card to prove they are a adult, they cannot access the discussions/community hub for flagged games they do not own, bringing up my case that i brought up originally.

And Secondly, only realising that my card is a Debit card, so they would still block me out regardless, despite the many years of using Steam in the first place.

Please @SteamSupport, please fix this mess, as i'm sure many people have cried out, this doesn't work. You clearly value our privacy which i am thankful for, but leaving it to only credit cards is a kick in the nards for roughly 75% of the country. I WANT to spend my money here, but these limitations just leave me held back. The question comes down in the end to this, who do you value more?

Not 75% of the country, its 32% of adults don't have credit cards. But to be fair, 32% is still a significant % to be leaving on the table.

I admit the 75% was a bit of a over-exaggeration on my part, at the same time i understand the reasoning for people with debit cards, they don't want to be under the limelight of having to pay off debt for buying items etc, whereas debit cards, you only spend what you have, and not have to worry on debt paybacks etc.

Nonetheless, there has to be a better way for people to buy Steam Products without this invasion of privacy named the OSA. If facial guesstimates, id picture scans, and atm, credit cards do not work, what else will?
Do we have any more news as to alternative verification for steam, for people who do not have a credit card?

some games require you to own it before you can post in the forum, it has nothing to do with the recent changes.

yes but they gave no timeline on when they will add more ways to verify yourself
To the first point @eram, my previous statement stands, what if you wanted to ask a question about the game that could effect you deciding if the purchase is worth it or not, but cannot access the forums for it because you don't own said game. In the end, you are having to decide by either word of mouth from other sources out there, or having to pay for said title first, just to access basic functions of the community that should be there freely for people. I get needing to protect eyes and such, but it is a little ridiculous.

And to the second point, its good they are looking into alternatives, but it would be nice to get a timeline/roadmap to this.

Thank you for your input at least (7^_^)7

Then you'll have to ask any questions outside of Steam. It sucks, but your government forced this. So any complaints should be directed at them.

its been like this for like a decade. its nothing to do with the changes, If the dev/publisher of the game want to set the forum to owners only then they can. you can buy the game or not.. ask questions somewhere else and if you dont like it then vote with your wallet and dont buy the game.

the 2nd point they did not give any timeline, you can contact steam support to ask and they will say no timeline thanks for asking

Well its news to me, didn't realise devs had the option to lock out discussions unless people paid up first. Been using steam over 10 years or so and never once could i not access discussions before, ever since the OSA, that completely changed.

Bad practice IMO, but people can choose what to do with their product.

To my main point, i really do hope they announce something soon for the 30% of people without a credit card, or as people are calling it now, a debt card, and find a way to satisfy all sides.
Any game with a locked forum is required to have at least one of their sub forums unlocked for those who don't own the game to ask questions. So check the other sub forums for the game and you will find the one you can post in.

so from what i heard is once you have done the whole CC thing , you don't actually have to use it to buy games you can still use top up wallet system or a debit card but you'll have to select them manually everytime , also yes then you will have access again to everything as if it was normal steam , however your CC will be permanently stored on there system and tied to your account you can't remove it otherwise access will be removed from certain games again and you will be back to square one so as i understand it
