Steam client is unoptimized crap
I don't know how Valve can be so good at making performant games, but can't make a basic desktop application that's really just a glorified browser app. Some views cause the steamwebhelper process to consume 100% a full cpu core (with no gpu accleration) or a whole 12% of my gpu (with gpu acceleration) when showing a static page with text and some pictures and nothing is changing. It's almost like someone snuck in an infinite for-loop into the code or something that just sits there grinding away doing nothing for no reason. It literally causes my PC fans to spin up and raises my CPU/GPU temperature by 10C. It immediately goes down as soon as I close the client. What the f**k is it doing? Makes me weary to even have it open while playing a demanding game. This is something I would expect from a scrappy web startup company not an established games company with top computer science talent and plenty of resources. Not to mention that it's still a 32-bit application which is extremely annoying. It's just ameteur ♥♥♥♥ really no other way to sugar coat it. Valve is overall a good company with talented employees, but the steam client was clearly made by an incompetent team and it's just unacceptable. I don't mean to sound rude, it's just that it's been so bad for so long that I have no choice to believe that Valve just has no respect for their (front-and-center component of their) own product in this one area (again all other areas they are fantastic). Even just going through the files installed by steam, it's just a pile of scripts calling other scripts that call other scripts with binaries and libraries strewn about in 50 different directories. If this was an open source project, it would be ridiculed and no one would want to contribute to a spaghetti code pile of ♥♥♥♥ like that. It's not well designed, not well developed, not well maintained, and performs terribly. I'm not trying to just be an angry internet person I really love Valve and Steam overall and what they've done for gaming, but like enough is enough. Give the steam client the love and attention it deserves after all you have accomplished Valve. Thank you.

I suppose you can program a better steam client?
What are your PC specs including OS?

What other software do you have installed?

I have zero issues with the client performance and i am using a PC from 2016, Win 10 x64.
Just one of the multitude of issues facing Steam and the game industry at large right now.

Like the other problems it definitely feels like a “let’s ignore it until we can’t “ thing.
