why doesnt steam have auto ban for certain words?
things like "skill issue" "get gud" etc should be an automatic ban. it is just trolling and bullying. and it should also tell you who gives awards. people give me clown awards all the time as harassment and i want to block them. i dont want to talk to online bullies

these are necessary forum upgrades.

edit: clown bullies are already starting. of course.

Its up to you if you're offended.
And the examples you gave are words of encouragement.
Because the context of what was said is more important than the words used.

Case in point - your own thread would net you a ban because you used the words you said should result in an instant ban.

See the problem?

in no format are either of those 2 sets of words used in any context other than to harass and bully. and those are the facts.

dont forget spam. i see this even in posts about crashing or game bugs. how is someone posting their technical glitches a rationale reason for responding "get gud"

in no possible context is it appropriate.

and those are the facts.

Except you literally just used them in your own OP. So, by your own suggestion, you'd be banned.

So the context of a word or phrase is clearly more important than the inherent use of it.

its not bannable now hence my ability to say it and if it was bannable i wouldnt say it since i wouldnt want to get banned. so this is a moot point.

any questions?
Don't give Starmer any more terrible ideas
Also, Valve stopped showing who sent the awards in the emails for receiving awards a couple weeks after they launched the awards.

:nkCool:

Except people who don't know or are unsure will ask questions and likely include banned words in their posts, thus resulting in a ban anyway.

So again, the context of a word or phrase is more important than the mere use of it. This is a core principle of language, whether written or verbal. You aren't going to see that change here, nor should it.

easy solution, provide the list of banned words. the stove is hot, dont touch it.

Okay, but what about the context of a word? You can sit there and pretend that the words you've suggested have no acceptable context outside of being offensive. Well, that's your judgement and not the judgement of others.

And if you're so offended by words, I'd suggest blocking the people who say them and don't engage with them.

This suggestion is not a positive change.

theres no context where either 2 phrases would be necessary to use on the steam board. and that is a fact.

any questions?

i already block them. it still shows "blocked user" on the feed. so it is not a viable solution for combating spam on my screen.

Yes there is. Fun between friends is a pretty common context in which it is used.

Again, if you are offended by what people say, ignore them and move on.

All this suggestion would do is give people power to continue having more and more words banned. It's not a positive change.

Toughen up.

"fun between friends" doesnt occur on the steam board. what you do on your private chat is your own business and that is fair. this is a public space where such comments are unwarranted in any context.

You just need to ignore people who say things you find offensive. The block feature does work for this, because you can just not click on the "show" button and that's that.

Move on buddy.
