Game Recording needs work for VR titles
Hello,

I apologize if this is the incorrect location for this discussion. I seldom create public posts.

Steam's new background recording feature has been absolutely incredible, but I do have some feedback; it REALLY needs work when it comes to VR titles.

The feature feels like it will only actually start recording 20%~ of the time. Sometimes, I will launch Blade & Sorcery, and it records fine. Other times, it won't record at all, and I have never managed to get it to work with Beat Saber via a non-Steam game addon from Oculus, despite the game working perfectly opened via SteamVR, with the checkbox enabled in the game's preferences panel.

Edit for clarity: It doesn't matter if it's a non-steam or not; my example of Blade & Sorcery is a Steam title, and where I refer to that 20%~ I am not making this post strictly regarding non-steam games.

The feature works absolutely perfectly for flat-screen titles, but rarely and unreliably on Virtual Reality titles.

My purpose of this post is to create a discussion. Perhaps I am misusing the feature, or someone at value might see this, and a fix can be made :/

Thanks for reading my post :)

I would strongly suggest that you use actual recording software instead of using whatever Valve decided to patchwork into Steam.

Valid point, I am an avid user of OBS when I know I want to record something, but the purpose of the feature for me (one being background recording) is so you don't miss those clippable moments, and that is an awesome feature.

I have personally caught a dozen clips of things I had no idea were going to happen in some games with this feature. Having that in VR would be nice too. The problem with this solution is that it is wildly impractical to be setting up OBS to record every time you launch a game and change settings. Steam does this automatically with this feature.

I don't so much have a problem with other solutions, but the fact that this is the included one, the practical one, and that it may have an issue that may need to be addressed :)
