And there is also no official steam staff on discord.

I use Discord (in free mode) for work purposes.

It is better than Slack free mode, which we used previously.

It's basically forums for people now. Telegram does a similar thing too. Because communities keep getting wiped out by big tech.

Viber can do it too, as well as Whatsapp. Signal as well.

Of course, they are all slightly different from usability perspective.

I liked ICQ & Skype too, but they both went dead/defunct in the recent 1-2 years. :(

Skype got replaced by MS Teams, and while not a huge difference between them some folks despise Teams for its notoriously bad quality it had in the past for certain functions.

But YMMV, as Teams is being improved fast.
(Also, my small child used MS Teams just fine a few years ago, when we had to do those home school online classes due to COVID'19 lockdown.)

Game Developers and Game Publishers make good use of Discord, as they can control spammers a lot easier.
