What's the point of thumbs down in reviews?
It does nothing.

YouTube does the same thing, their thumbs down button does nothing when you click on it. What's the point in having it then?

Because it does have a function? You have the steam reviews which range from like very positive to very negative which is directly based off of the thumbs up and down. If it has 100 reviews with half being thumbs up and the other thumbs down then it will show as "mixed", a 75/25 split would be mostly positive, and a 25/75 split being mostly negative. Youtube is for for the creators to see (unless you use an extension) so they know what their fans like and dislike. Just like leaving a review at a restaurant, 1-5 stars and the review.

-Edit-
Changed mostly negative to very negative.

Let me put it to you this way ...

If there were a thumbs down for posts you'd likely be getting that instead of the Jesters.

Which is worse? I'll leave that for you all to decide.
It does the samething it always did m8. They didn't change the functionality.. just whether or not it was displayed and it seems that a lot of people were just using it to dogpile for the lols.

Thumbs down is worse. At least if you’re going to disagree without being able to articulate why, you have to pay me for that privilege.

You are several years too late for this.

The thumb down feature worked for years without any problem whatsoever. Nobody really understand why they decided to remove it. The jesters are simply the public reaction over this, going for something else to achieve the same thing. Bring the thumb down button back again and you'll notice that the jesters are not even going to be used for the same reason anymore.

I watched a YouTube video and they said, at least for YouTube doing it, they got rid of them because they were mass thumbs downing movie trailers. The movie companies complained and Google no longer has the thumbs down option do anything.

On Steam, you can down vote games and it'll show, but not people's review of said game. Why not? Valve wouldn't care if people got mass down voted for their reviews.

Thanks to this post, I just realized that casting a review on an ancient-Rome-themed game is a kind of funny meta joke.

The whole point for the thumb down is for people to voice their opinion. If they thumb down it is because of a reason. Removing this when people were using it correctly is simply stupid and remove consumer "voice".

We all know what happened with all that drama in movies. How much of that do you think they could have avoided if they had reacted "correctly" to it instead of silencing people and realising afterwards that they were losing their audience?
