why are there games in "featured deep discounts" that have mediocre reviews?
On the "featured deep discounts," usually they have classic or semi-classic games there that typically are somewhat old, but highly reviewed by players on Steam. Like in the last few sales they were typically like 85%+ positive reviewed.

Indeed, the Steam store page says of "featured deep discounts" games... "ESPECIALLY GREAT DEALS ON SOME OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS"

I mean the page is supposed to have GREAT games not games with average or bad review scores I would guess... lol.

Destiny 2: Lightfall is on there for me and it has "mostly negative" reviews. Mafia 3 is on there and has "mixed" reviews.

I wouldn't exactly say something is an "all-time great" game if it has "mostly negative" or "mixed" reviews, typically...

Maybe I'm unusual but I'd even rather see highly rated indies, older games, or AA games there than a sub-par AAA game.

Each and every one of those games will be considered "great" by someone and "crap" by someone else. The selection is not tailored -- everyone see the same games.

Yeah, that's why Steam has review score averages so we have a measurement to go with that's more meaningful than an individual player's opinion.
It is also based on language preferences.

Mafia 3 is doing very well in Brazil.

Lightfall is doing worse in China.

Exactly. I consider MOBAs and FPS as crap games, and RPG as great. Everyone has their opionion about games

Only that also means squat to the majority of players. Steam reviews are not an all defining metric. There are plenty of games that are reviewed poorly by the 10% or so of Steam customers who decide to leave a review that are actually enjoyable games. Likewise, there are plenty of games praised by the same small number that are utter tosh and not worth the time.
