We're all going to end up going to ID. If it's not our governments the companies themselves will do it. Likely including Steam before long.

I've been of the opinion for a long time we need internet ID. Take away the anonymity and watch the internet become a much nicer place.

And talking about giving hackers a hard hit. Think about that. You can actually be banned from a game, no making an alt to get back in.

And all to often I have read posts by children in forums for adult games. So there is that.

I think its silicon valley that is doing this and the deep state. Not to mention Section 230 preventing lawsuits against these companies if their IDs are leaked. This aint going to work well.

Just remember your ISP holds all the information on what your viewing and where, VPN or not. Your connection's still visible to them, since you haven't connected to the VPN server at that point for the encryption to take place.

So you want already marginalized/(in some parts of the world) criminalized groups to have even MORE of a target on their back? You want protesters and whistleblowers and undercover journalists and anyone else who pushes back against bigoted laws arrested by authoritarian governments or targeted by mobs? Really?!?

I don’t think you thought this through. Or maybe you simply have the luxury of not being in a marginalized group or of living in a country without a backwards government. If so, good for you-not everyone is so lucky.

Gonna share something. When I was a kid, I used to play Tibia (back in the dial-up internet era). My dad never let me use the internet by myself and he used to play with me, which was a lot of fun. One day a guy in the game started talking to me and when I told him my age he asked if I had a "nice ass". My dad took me away form the keyboard and started to insult the guy then he banned me from playing Tibia. I tried to play behind his back because I thought that making a new character wouldn't be a problem since "the bad guy" wouldn't know who I was. My dad found out, grounded me, and banned me form using internet for a month. I was pissed off but now I'm thankful to him.
You don't need government to protect kids on the internet. Kids don't buy phones. Kids don't pay for internet. Parents do. They're the ones that need to control what their kids do in the internet.

meh, ill watch/read/ect.. w/e i can without an account and ignore the rest of the internet, wont be giving id for anything, internet isnt that important to me.

assuming this even continues and comes to my region.

fyi, you forgot to include that brazil is trying to make it "mandatory by 2032", thus given time, it might not even happen.

dont forget all the other companies, even one not to long ago, with gmail (2.5 billions users data) and their denial they were "hacked", but tried downplaying and claiming it was only a specific app and small amount of people.

not counting the many other companies/ect.. before.

You don't need government to protect kids on the internet. Kids don't buy phones. Kids don't pay for internet. Parents do. They're the ones that need to control what their kids do in the internet.

THIS. RIGHT. HERE. Why should all adults be punished by the governments of the world because irresponsible parents don’t want to monitor their children’s time on the internet? Irresponsible parents should not be an “everybody” problem.
