Bot Anomaly
I've been experiencing this for months now and I still don't have an explanation for this. Out of nowhere, I get added by people who never respond or do anything really. They are obviously bots. But what exactly is the purpose of them? Unlike the usual ♥♥♥♥, these don't even bother sending phishing links or act maliciously. What is going on?

Yep I've seen a handful of users doing this, when looking at their post history they do it over and over and over in several different subforums, one appeared in my original thread as well but it looks like Steam forums was smart enough to remove it (I didn't do anything other than blocked it).

So far haven't had any friends invites, did get a lot on Playstation Network though, holy cow and the Blackberry BBM before it got shut down too.

Yeah, I’ve noticed those too. They add you, never say anything, never send links… just sit there. Honestly I have no idea what the point is, maybe just data collection or building “aged” accounts? Either way, feels weird compared to the usual scam bots.
do not interact with other users. they want to exploit you or do you harm.
...

Why... Would you accept invite from people you don't know in the first place?
