Well, I did, but I must say I have little faith in them.
Appeal it then. Mistakes can happen, we're only human.

As expected, they just gave a copy pasted message that the ban was applied correctly. Sad what Steam has become.

Well, I just said I think they made a mistake, given post is not even mine and i ask for a fix. That's all I said.

Well, it's disappointing to be honest, you can no longer have a conversation because it seems like whoever reports the other person first wins. It's sad Steam support is enabling it, I don't think anyone thinks that 1 week ban for this post is justifiable.

Steam Support has often been considered to be crapshoot, and the actual worst offenders on Steam only receive nothing more than slaps on the wrists and nothing more.

After talking some more it seems like the whole reason was not included and the problem seems to be that I told the guy "stop being weird". Is it inflammatory? Does "weird" have multiple meanings in english language? If not, THIS is the reason for a 1 week ban?

It's ridiculous, they just put "posts that can lead to non-constructive discussions" and you never know what you can and can't say, they just gave themselves an open gate to ban anyone for anything. I am already walking on eggshells and still it's not enough.
You are only seeing "part" of the post in the ban message because of the large size. Happens with large quote posts, thats why it appears to be someone elses post, you quoted the other guys post but its not showing THAT part because it got cut off.

It's impossible to get banned for someone elses post because the ban action is taken from a drop down on the "offending post" directly.

This response is entirely informational, I have no intention of getting drawn into a debate on the merits of the ban. I just know how absolutely ♥♥♥♥ steam support is at explaining WHY the ban notice does this sometimes. Been a hub moderator for a long time.

To help here is a screenshot of exactly what the moderator options look like on a given post/user. If you want to poke around and see them you can also create a steam group as they get the exact same toolset

Some forum moderators will try to predict trends based on past experience. This might seem a little like Minority Report (2002, PG-13), but it does seem to help keep the tone cooler.

I mean... since you asked.

They could go full Microsoft: make you pay $60 per year for multiplayer gaming, perma-ban you with 10 months still remaining with no refund, VAC ban your hardware based on the TPM ID ... all while ignoring the most toxic of the community which you had been paying them $60 per year to moderate in the first place.

For a ban of limited scope (only a specific community hub) and limited length (1 week), it seems like they are keeping their mod actions in moderation

Even worse is Paypal support. A previous company I work for (website hosting services) had to justify the existence of their business model in binding arbitration to get the "right" to charge customers through Paypal again. The online payment processor blocked all transactions claiming that there was a TOS violation. No other further details at all. Paypal "support" would also only state the account was flagged for TOS violation and explain where to find the full text of the TOS. But in binding arbitration they claimed our business model causes excessive fraud because we don't ship anything to a physical address. It seems a little rich to have to explain to an online payment processor when online only business models exist!

Anyways, every time I hear about problems being able to use Paypal during checkout with Steam, my first thought is Paypal probably put a TOS-block on the account again requiring a Valve employee to have a "lovely" conversation Paypal "support." It is just speculation, but I have heard similar stories from enough people that I believe it to be true.

Well, to be honest if Microsoft pulled something like this on me I would just go with chargeback + my country has very good customer protection laws, but since I never heard about it it seems like they are doing it only in extreme cases.

About Paypal - I know, that's why I don't use it, ♥♥♥♥ them.
