while Windows 10 for consumers will lose support in Oct 2025. its LTSC versions are supported for far longer. until 2032 for 21H2 LTSC IoT for example.
the support for Windows 7 has been dropped because Chromium dropped support at the end of its ESU.
and I can certainly imagine that Chromium will keep on supporting 10 way past 2025 because of the LTSC releases.
Close but not quite. The long-term servicing channel is indeed primarily meant for integrated systems that are tested and delivered as a whole and any added features in an upgrade; mean revising and retesting the whole system. So medical and industrial set-ups; aircraft control systems; that kind of thing.
But while LTSC doesn't include new OS features over its life time, it does still include security updates and bugfixes wrt e.g. robustness of generic driver classes included with the OS.
LTSC also isn't something consumers can even legally use.
The LTSC channel is only available to the Windows 10 Enterprise SKU and that's only sold to select large businesses in individual negotiation; or offered through iirc the Microsoft Partner program.
Even normal small to medium sized businesses will not have access to anything 'better' than Pro licenses normally.
True. Google likely has business users it doesn't want to screw with.
Will most likely switch to Zorin or Bazzite if it goes wrong at all, i'm done with windows.
As for when will Steam stop supporting 64bits OSes? That will be in a loooooong time in the future. Especially if people keep using the OS. There is already a huge divide between Windows 10 and Windows 11 users.
I've personally decided a long time ago that my next machine is going to be Linux based. I'm just that fed up with all the BS MS is bringing up.
There are risks of MS taking over your PC like accidentally giving recall more permission
