Is this currently going around?

a "friend" asks me to sign up for a dota2 tournament and his profile pic and name are the copy of another guy in my F-list (i know this is a old trick)

it feels like his chatmessages are Chatbot messages as it "reacts" to what i type and then redirects it to the request

Reported him 4 days ago and today they tried again.
