Mainly because they'll just send you the malicious links in the request, if there was an option to do so.
Or they'll still string you along stating they need to talk to you about something, in a vague message to get you to accept it and then start trying to scam you.
Then again I decline everyone anyways, even if we had a fun time in a game.
I did at one point add random people and I can tell you, I wasn't looking to be apart of people's fetishes.
I have no problem accepting friends until they stop acting friendly. Then they disappear off my friend's list permanently.
The majority of people on Steam don't meet on the forums. They meet in game.
There is a vocal minority that meet people on the forums though.
I'm only showing the difference between forums and in game. The vast majority of users never touch the forums.
