2 Steam Accounts, 2 Windows Accounts, 2 Owned copies of the game, same gamefiles for mods?
I want to host a project zomboid co-op server using my brother's account my computer. I created a local microsoft account for him, he logged in to his steam account on this fresh local microsoft account.

However, it seems like the game files are shared. I believed I could install his copy of the game to drive D and my copy would remain on drive C.

This way, some of the mods that require overwriting of game files beyond just subscribing to workshop items would remain separated between the two steam accounts.

Now however, since the game files are shared, the files that I have overwritten in my account will remain in my brothers game even if he isn't subscribed to those workshop items hence defeating the purpose of the whole

Any ideas on how I could solve this? without using another computer or dualbooting linux/another copy of windows or virtual machines or wsl...

I don't intend to play two instances of the game on the same computer, no. Just host a game from a fresh installation of project zomboid so I can manage the mods better.

Don't forget you also need to change any other directories and folders like save games or anything in user / appdata, or even and game folders stored in discussion / document folders..

I have 3 versions of several games from multiple store fronts, used for beta testing etc... and you have to change not just the game folder location, but all of the other locations that store game related files. also do not forget about your registry data... that might also cause conflicts.

@pckirk yes, any idea on how to go about that. In my case it is 2 copies on 2 steam different steam accounts on 2 different windows accounts on the same PC.
I wish to change the install location of one of the copies of the game on one of the accounts to a different drive entirely.
I can't seem to find any instruction for this or find a way to do it. Any help is appreciated thanks!

As far as i know the thing you try wont work on the same PC with the same OS.

As the install location of steam & the games are shared for all users only a secondary OS (different PC, vm even if I recommend that only if it has not too much impact on Performance, a rented server) would work which is not using the same drives as the main one.
