Account hacking on the rise❓
While browsing through different forums here; I've seeing multiple topics about [accounts being hacked, and money stolen]❗ After all these updates and unnecessary changes Valve/Steam has made, people are still getting hacked! 😢

I remember the 1st time my account got hacked over a decade ago... I found out through a YT video how it was done so easily. Just by adding a "friend". [No details on how for obvious reasons]. This is why I stopped accepting "Friend Requests" ever since then.

These days it seems like accounts can get hacked multiple ways! So what's the solution? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Educating people on what to look out for can be a start.

The solution is for people to stop logging onto third party web sites with their steam credentials.

Not sure how adding a friend can get your account compromised unless you click on links sent by the "friend" and then enter your steam credentials.

Just adding a friend never compromised any account ever.

Nope. Sending & clicking links wasn't even necessary.

You'd be surprised. Unless this a troll response from a hacker. <_<

Education might help, but some people will refuse to learn. Fact is these scams target the weakest link, and that weakest link is the end user. That's not something that can be patched.

You can make scamming harder at the cost of convenience and ease of use. You can make the system more convenient and easier to use at the cost of security. It's a careful balancing act, and a move in either direction is going to have consequences.

Many scam victims don't realize what it was they did that got them scammed, and even when shown direct proof, they often refuse to believe it was their own actions that did it. This is why I say some people will refuse to learn.

Then, show a source for the exploit no one has encountered by simply adding a friend.

...and it better not be due to clicking some random link.

No. It's not really on the rise. It's just more people coming to the forums completely shocked that they got scammed by an obvious scam, or fed their credentials into an obvious scam website.

Peoples' info can get stolen just by being in a Online game. Games with weak to no security!

That's not "just by adding friends."

No, they can’t. Games do not send your login info or even use your login info, and steam guard/2FA also prevents them from logging in with only your username and password.

During a competition. A single point in time. Everything is fine now.
