If you don't live there and are changing it to avoid restrictions or to get cheaper prices then yes, they can completely ban your steam account and take away access to your games.

Yes, lying about the country you are in to use some other currency can get your account locked.

By using VPN to circumvent/exploit (regional) prices, yes! You become banned..

You need to live in that other country, or maybe do a longer vacation over there with your laptop..

To use VPN in general does NOT harm your Steam Account, but if Steam catches you to circumvent prices by using a VPN or similar, your Steam Account becomes suspended/banned.. this rule has applied since 2020..

Again using a VPN hasn't done anything for changing a region for YEARS now. It was changed quite a while ago. You can't change your region using a VPN.

It now requires a payment method issued in the region you wish to change to.

..oh you can circumvent by using VPN and by changing some Steam settings, but i dont explain this further..

I live in central europe, sometimes i use a VPN as special streaming sites are blocked in my country.. If i enable my VPN, Steam automatically logs out and re-logs in from the US for example. It is even logged in my personal Steam data..

Again, your not allowed to circumvent your region but using a VPN hasn't let you do that for years. It now requires a payment method issued from the region you wish to change to.

You need to read the FAQ they updated years ago - https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/2B3F-DAEF-846B-A0E8

What if I move and want to change my store country to the new location?

If you have moved to a new place, or are living abroad for an extended period of time, you can update your Steam country setting when you complete your first purchase using a payment method from that region. If your location differs from your current Steam account store country setting you'll have an option to change your store region while you view your cart or as you complete your purchase.

He's saying that you can't use a VPN to change your region. As in, it doesn't work anymore.

That doesn't change your store region. Your store region is locked, it cannot be changed more then once every 3 months and does not automatically change without you initiating it. Even if you travel to another country and log in there your store region remains the same until you manually change it.

There are ways which you have even explained..

If Steam catches you as you circumvent prices to buy cheaper etc.. WHATEVER YOU DO TO DO THIS, your Account becomes suspended or even banned. Depends on infraction. And of course in most cases VPNs and DNS are involved..

Region Restrictions on Steam
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/58D3-B80D-2943-3CC6

Can I use a proxy, VPN or disguise my location to redeem a region restricted Steam Gift?

No, using a proxy or VPN to disguise your location is strictly against the Steam Terms of Service and may result in restrictions on your Steam account. If you attempt to redeem a region restricted game and your location is inconsistent with your past Steam activity, a warning will appear as shown below:

Do whatever you like, it is not my concern anyways..

Yes.

A VPN is not able to do that anymore, which is what people are trying to tell you. Steam gathers your region based off more than the IP.

Yes that is old. They updated it a few years ago. You now need a payment method and a billing address for the country you are trying to change to. Was changed about 3 years ago - https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/discussions/forum/7/2801755519335135291/

They can also ban you for setting the region to one where prices are higher -- case in point, I know someone who lost their account doing just that.

This was back in the days when Valve actually nuked accounts for doing this. Nowadays, they just disable everything related to purchasing, but let you keep your current games.

As it is though, you cannot change your region using a VPN alone anymore. You'd have to commit credit card (or similar) fraud in order to do so -- unless you legitimately move to the region you want to change to.
