Can't write review if family shared.
I'm assuming it's to avoid being able to share games repeatedly to spam reviews, but would an indicator similar to "product received for free" on said reviews at fix this? It would be real easy to see a legitimate review from a fake one with this tag as well as a low play time.

If you play a game and have an opinion on it, it shouldn't matter if you are the one who paid for it or not. Your opinion should still be valid. Like if the reason is just to avoid spam, there are far better ways to handle it than just denying shared reviews entirely.

Clearly, you'll never grasp the concept of searching for answers first given this response. That's too bad.

No because
1) you are borrowing the game
2) abuse of reviews

Playing games on a different platform also make your opinion valid. That, however, still doesn't mean you should be able to post a review on Steam when you don't own it on Steam. No, requiring game ownership for reviews is a good thing. They should remove the review box when you play a game from a shared library, that should eliminate the confusion there currently is.

One of the rules for reviews is that you need to OWN the game.
You only borrowing it, you down own it so you dont get to rate the game or write a review.

And like already mentioned it would lead to massive review abuse if it was possible.
Share the game with 10 other accounts to review bomb it with negative ratings, then multiple that by thousands of possible accounts who could ( lets be real, WOULD) do that.

No thx.

Same reason you cant write a review after a refund anymore or modify a existing one.

Well if you want to get technical, the game in question was bought by my wife, which came from out shared bank account. I did pay for the game.

Review it when you purchase it for your account.

You realize how that is both stupid and a waste of money, right?

How is it either of those?

It's actually not. There are about 5 games that I've bought on separate accounts despite the games being sharable.

It's not stupid at all if you like the game, appreciate the work and support the developer has put into the game, and want to support said developer.
Lantis 29 Dec, 2021 @ 3:07pm
And if the game in question doesn't meet that criteria?

If you want to use a service (access to writing reviews) you pay for it.
