How can I get a refund on points? I bought a background but I don't like it. I want another one but I don't have anymore points either

How can I get a refund on points? I bought a background but I don't like it. I want another one but I don't have anymore points either

It doesn't matter if the already bought background disappears from my inventory.

The only known exception is if you have a recent purchase that you can refund. If you refund a purchase you lose those points you got from that purchase and if you don't have enough to cover it, Steam will return shop items starting with the most recent till there's enough to cover the point deficit.

You can't. Items bought with points are non-refundable.

Only games are refunded and if any points came with it they are also refunded.
Profile backgrounds purchased from the points store are perminent.

This is not fair because I mistakenly bought a mini profile background and now we need to be able to refund it. Why Steam does not add this feature

You're given ample opportunity to NOT buy that thing on the system page.

Points are fleeting. Learn to enjoy your mini.

The only time I've seen/heard about a Steam Points Shop purchase being refunded was because the developers changed what it looked like.

Probably to stop users from just changing their backgrounds to something else whenever they want to

Overpriced and I spent many points when game profiles weren't introduced, now they just lie around, if not refund, they should let us exchange them. Limiting the number of times you are able to do it per profile would fix the problem too

I wish Steam allows people to refund awards as well, people keep giving me Jester awards on my profile when I made a thread asking for help on how to deal with it.

Unfortunately, it cannot be returned.

In the past, I've purchased an avatar frame that looked good and was disappointingly disappointing.
I would like you to be able to return the item within 2 hours or within 2 weeks after redeeming it, just like returning a game.
Mini-profiles, avatar frames, moving profile backgrounds, etc. require high points, so the mental shock of failure is great.
