Definitely not worth the full price in 2025 (25.99 CAD). I got it on sale (80% off) and was reasonably satisfied for that price.

It will scratch your itch for a first person puzzler but it's pretty short at around 5 hours.

The game features interesting new puzzle ideas and mechanics, but I felt they were never exploited to their full potential. It's clearly heavily inspired from the Portal series, with direct references in the game lore, but in my opinion it did not really bring a new original oomph to the genre.

Voice acting is great, story is interesting but it seemed a bit shallow by the end of the game.

My biggest gripe is graphic performance. I originally bought this game somewhere in 2020 or 2021 and asked for a refund because I felt nauseous and dizzy playing it. I can't quite put my finger on the problem but it felt very stuttery, like playing at 20-30 FPS, while Steam FPS counter clearly showed 75 with VSYNC on (I played with basically every graphics setting and nothing worked). I thought this would have been fixed by 2025 but nothing changed. I've managed to get used to it but if you're really sensitive to that, you might want to pass on this game.

Otherwise, decent value when on sale, but nothing groundbreaking.

Decent first person puzzle game. It's not on the level of something like Portal, but it's reasonably interesting and entertaining.

Lightmatter is basically Portal-style puzzles, but with lights instead of portals.

The concept is really cool, and the game looks fantastic, but there are only really two puzzle objects in the game: lamps and crystals. The game is about 4-5 hours to complete, and for about the first half of the game you just have lamps. Unlike the Portal gun, lamps and crystals are on stands which you can do nothing besides move around. There are only so many types of puzzles you can do with this, and I found myself wishing the game would change things up more.

Multiple puzzles I "solved", but had the light/crystal just a tiny bit off where it needed to go, and so had to backtrack and move stuff around. Once the novelty wears off, moving lamps around is just not that much fun.

Puzzle exits are often not visible from the entrance of the puzzle, so there will times where you aimlessly fiddle around with puzzle elements until you see where you need to go.

No matter what framerate you play on, the movement/physics/engine is locked to 60fps. This makes everything look absolutely terrible. In my 4.5 hours of playtime I never got used to it and it's very distracting. The game also crashed four times in my playthrough.

All of this sounds very negative, but I did only pay $4 for it, and it was mostly a good time. It's no Portal, but it's probably worth 4-5 hours of your time if you enjoy puzzles.

Other Notes:
- I pretty much ignore stories in games, so this was no different. Some people might find it compelling or interesting. I don't have much to say about it.
