It was fun when it first released, as it had an immense amount of potential for the future. That, sadly, was not the case. It frustrates me because I wanted this game to become good, but it has fallen under its own shortcomings.

The density of zombies seems to have progressively decreased—to the point where, when I recently came back to the game, they appeared only sporadically. I was able to beat the game with just a small squad of units and two ATGM Humvees right from the start. Even when I allowed the infected to take over an entire island or two—supposedly resulting in half the population being infected—it never actually felt that way.

The UI was basic but serviceable, and there hasn't been a noticeable upgrade to it—if any—since. The main menu feels old and outdated, which is also how I’d describe the rest of the interface.

Feature creep. Oh boy. People might look at the updates and say, “What feature creep?” But there are unpolished, unintegrated systems in the game that have no meaningful impact and can be completely ignored without affecting your experience whatsoever.

- The evacuation mechanic does nothing. You can’t win the game by evacuating everyone since the main objective is to kill Patient Zero. The extra income it provides is negligible and unnecessary when you’re already sitting on 100k in cash due to how the game's economy works. A fix would be to make evacuation the primary income source, rather than just “controlling zones” that enemies never even reach—zones you never have to defend.

- The factions are either convenient meat shields or minor nuisances. You can deal with them easily by placing a few towers and having an engineer nearby to repair them. Diplomacy only matters if you accidentally airstrike them; otherwise, your relationship never changes.

- Now, the biggest issue of all: Operator Mode. This game is advertised as an RTS first and foremost—not a third-person shooter, and certainly not (as one of the devs suggested) a future first-person shooter. Why implement such a system when the game is already a patchwork of disconnected mechanics? Operator Mode doesn't mesh with the rest of the game at all.

Then there’s a myriad of other issues I’ll just rapid-fire through: the economy, in its current state, gives you way too much cash; you can lock down Patient Zero with 105mm cannons on the Strykers until you unlock the ammo needed to kill her; there are too many towers per zone, too many turrets per zone; you can completely negate the worm by placing a single structure; the radius effects for some vehicles and structures are too large; in the doctrines, some unlocks should be moved to their appropriate categories (like helicopters from the Armored Division to the Air category); and finally, there’s not enough variety between doctrines to make each run feel different, since you can eventually unlock everything across all the trees.

I know people are aware of the constant reworks, including the latest major overhaul to introduce co-op while trying to fix everything else. But I’m not convinced these changes are making the existing systems more meaningful to the core gameplay. I believe the developers are either getting ahead of themselves or letting the community dictate too much of the design. They need to take a step back and focus on integrating systems that actually interact with and support each other—instead of piling on optional side content that can be ignored entirely.

I really hope they refocus their efforts and get back to the core of what this game is: an RTS.

I miss being able to choose the gender of the operator, male or female so it would be cool to see that come back and i would love to be able to play as the police faction, other than the fact the game is still a work-in-progress, I would recommend this game to anyone because this game makes me feel like a Blackwatch dispatcher from "Prototype 1" the game has a nice premise and is very original...
