Space Haven Development Plan
Greetings, Spacefarers.

We do not have a set in stone roadmap, because we do not feel it works well for us. We treat Space Haven as a living breathing organism, where our focus is best directed at features, which work great timing wise or due to sudden realizations stemming from something players have given us as feedback.

Having a set in stone roadmap would prevent us from being able to make quick changes to plans without having to spend time explaining why we are shifting from a "set in stone" roadmap.

With this system we believe all parties are winners, us developers but also you the players. We will be able to freely navigate based on the feedback we are receiving. This is the way we have developed Space Haven so far, and we're really happy with the results it has produced.

However, we do have larger modules we know we would like to work on, but it is impossible for us to know when the opportunity to focus on a module presents itself. At best we will be able to let you know what we're working on next, but beyond that everything is open to us.

Possible larger modules

This list of modules is not a roadmap and may not all ever be finished. However, we will do our best to implement as much as possible.

  • Character depth - Improving how characters and systems work together to create more depth for characters, both physical and psychological. [Implemented]
  • User onboarding - Improving tooltips, hints and creating more elaborative tutorials where needed. [Implemented]
  • Ship-to-Ship Battles - Create more depth to ship-to-ship battles with new specialized turrets, capable of causing internal havoc within ships. [Implemented]
  • Modding tool - Create a modding tool to make modding easier and supported, to the extent that is possible.
  • Research - Create a research tree, with new technology to unlock. Research new weapons, shields and facilities. [Partly Implemented]
  • Multiple endings - Create more than one way to finish a playthrough, tied to stories. Endless sandbox possibility.
  • Random Ship/Station Generator - Create/Improve the random generator for ships and stations, which would allow you to explore smaller and larger derelict ships and stations, with more variation. [Implemented]
  • Environmental storytelling - Create an environmental story generation tool. Explore ships and stations and find Androids, who overpowered their masters, medical bays filled with corpses, open alien eggs on a research bench with dead crew members around.
  • Crew Combat & Aliens - Add some new weapons for crew members and possibly a new alien lurking in the shadows. Improve the difficulty and challenge based on feedback. [Implemented]
  • Missions - Picking up a distress signal from somewhere in the galaxy. Encountering battered civilians needing help from your best doctor. Smaller missions, which make your journey through space more interesting. [Partly Implemented]
  • Health modeling - Medical beds would have a scanning mechanism. Scan for diseases and foreign masses. Have your doctor perform surgeries and tend to the sick. [Implemented]
  • Your wishes - Anything the community thinks up is on the table. We will listen and implement to our best judgement. [Tons of ideas implemented! And more to come]

Upcoming Kickstarter Stretch Goals

These are modules we promised to implement in our Kickstarter campaign. We will aim to do all of these.

  • Station Mode - Role play as a space station owner, mine nearby asteroids and trade with visiting merchants. Watch tourists come visit your station and defend it from pirates and other factions.
  • Robots and Androids - Implementation of robots and androids. Humanlike androids with unique attributes. Helper, security and pet robots. [Partly Implemented]
  • Augmentation and Implants - Modify your crew members surgically and improve their capabilities. Take them beyond human limits! [Implemented]
  • Space Hazards - Solar flares, EMP effect that temporarily shuts down all facilities. Micrometeoroids, impactors that damage the hull and destroy equipment. Nebulas, overwhelm and short out your ship's shields. Siren Worlds, peculiar planets whose strange signals mess with the mind. [Implemented]
  • Advanced Game Customization - Tweak your game with many settings. Emphasize your beloved features. Receive a mark of honor for difficult playthroughs. Play your own way! [Implemented]
  • Play Another Faction's Journey - Choose to play as another faction such as Android Collective, Pirates Coalition, Slaver's Guild, Military Alliance. Unique faction mechanics introduced where possible. Watch their stories unfold in the Space Haven universe!

In addition to these there will probably be lots of smaller improvements, based on the feedback we receive from our players. Things like possible AI issues, balancing issues, UI improvements, bug fixes and so on.

We are a small team consisting of 3 developers, so we humbly ask for your patience as it takes time to implement new features. Thanks for reading!
