Dagger Disappeared?

I got schooled by a ladybug near my home base, but during the fight I accidentally chucked my dagger into its head when trying to change ammo. After I died and the ladybug lost aggro, I went to pick up my arrows, but found no indicator of the dagger anywhere nearby as it usually does for thrown weapons.

I kept searching and met up with the ladybug again to see if it dropped the dagger along its path, but I didn't keep up much hope. I ended up loading a save from before the fight entirely so I wouldn't have to re-do the dagger's upgrades if it was truly lost.

Anyone had a similar occurrence before, and if so, how did it resolve for you? Should I have been patient for the chance I found it again later? am using an online save, but I was the only one logged in when this happened.

I've lost weapons this way before, i ended up making a new one, then further into the game we found the weapon by mistake. Depending on your play style and whether you are on pc or controller....I remove the button for HUCK because i literally never use it. I don't use healbases, usually don't throw stems or anything like that. I remove the key binding just so I don't accidentally hit it. I lost a Widow Dagger level 7 once because of it. That's too many resources to lose.
