No, anti cheat system works online only, that means the game won't even start without internet connection.

Knowing Neowiz its probably not to prevent cheating but to prevent pirating. Most djmax games had some ridiculous anti-pirating measures (game not running without a dedicated usb drive, sound gets distorted during play, randomize speed, graphics flickering, all but one song gets hidden on song select, game completely locking up, etc)

Was excited to see the great discounts!

Then saw it still has terrible malware and always online attached to it. Guess I'll stick with the PS4 version.

I actually switched from the ps4 version. Unless you want to play nonstop in the subway or in the countryside with no internet access on the steam deck there's barely any difference. I'm online while playing anyway so I don't care. The pc version gets better support with updates too.

Not just countryside nor subway:
There are times that you work on zones without any kind of internet connectivity (not countryside, consider it "in the middle of nowhere") or just travelling by train / by plane.

So it looks like this game is paid-by-advance Game As A Service (GAAS)

You only pay for the license, the only thing that you got locally is the gamedata (music) and that's all.

Thanks, putting this game into ignore list.

In theory, yes. By then they hope you played enough of it that you wouldnt mind losing the access.

Those people with 0 hour playtime and only bought the game just to sit in their library are gonna review bomb this game so hard if that happens.

dang. I usually play rhythm games when I have no internet, so I bought this game to play it offline. Like on planes and stuff. Its only 10 dollars but its kinda sad.

Yes. By that point, I'm hoping that a "borrowed" copy of it will be floating around online. If not, we've all learned a valuable lesson about contributing to GaaS.
However, it is really a huge sadness that you cannot also play offline.
