About a month ago now I picked up the Life is Strange Remastered Collection. The first game was a masterpiece and the prequel was pretty good too, so I needed more. Looking into it, the 2nd and 3rd games both have standalone stories with a new characters and settings. The 2nd game looked a little too depressing for me, so I decided to pick up this instead. Life is Strange: True Colours is a solid game, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. There isn’t really any ways that this game is better and it does fail to capture the magic of the first game, but that does not mean it is bad. I did enjoy my time with it and I would recommend it.

Really the only way this is better is the animation and graphics. The animations are significantly better in this game and that does add to the experience. Similarly, this is a newer game using newer technologies and built for more advanced hardware, so it does have a lot better graphics. However, like the Remastered Collection, it does force on some ugly effects that lead to a picture that looks worse and blurrier than it should. Additionally, I do think I like the look of the first game better, even if it is less technologically advanced.

Like the original, Life is Strange: True Colours is a game that doesn’t have much gameplay and instead is carried by by its story and characters. Both were well done in this game, but I do wish the game was longer so that I had more time to learn about the characters and their personalities. By the end of the first game, I really felt like I new most of the characters and that they knew my version of Max. I didn’t really get that feeling here. Partially because the game was much shorter, but also partially because it felt like my decisions didn’t really matter. The first game really made me feel like things I said and did impacted the way characters behaved towards me. It made the characters and world feel real. Maybe they ♥♥♥♥♥ it in the first game or made it a lot more subtle in this one and doing a second playthrough of both would change my mind, but after a single playthrough of both, this games world and characters just didn’t feel real the same way they did in the first. Still, I did enjoy the characters. If I didn’t I would not be saying I wish I got to spend more time with them.

I also really liked the power in this game. I thought it would be boring, but functionally, it actually worked quite similar to the power in the original, while still having its own twist and being quite a bit more colourful. I thought it was quite nice, but there were a few times when it did feel like a bit of a solution looking for a problem, as in there were times its use was required that the answer seemed kind of obvious to me before I had used it.

As far as setting goes, this game feels a lot smaller, even though it is more open. Instead of having distinct locations that the story carries you to, this game has a street that allows you to somewhat freely move around and choose what building to enter. Of course only 4 or so buildings are enter-able and, depending on what’s happening in the story, you cannot always explore freely. In someways it made the game feel bigger, but it mostly made the game feel smaller. I’m not saying this is better or worse, it just is.

I could kind of go on and on about the game this way. The story is interesting and I enjoyed it, but it’s not as good, gripping, or impactful as the first’s. The music was great, but I struggle to remember any actual songs in it, even though weeks later, I still have songs from the original stuck in my head, along with the in game scenes that accompanied them. Location’s like Alex’s room and the record store were well designed, but I don’t see myself remembering them the same way I do the junkyard, Blackwell Academy, or Chloe’s house from the original.

Overall, Life is Strange: True Colours is a good game that I would recommend to anyone who wants another game similar to Life is Strange because I really did enjoy it. As much as it is a worse game, I never felt like I should just quit and replay the original, as I sometimes do when playing worse versions of games I’ve already played. Just keep in mind that this feels like a similar game, not a sequel, and it’s not as good or long as the original, taking only 13 hours for me to beat, compared to the 20 the original took.

Trash game, crashed at least 20 times during chapter 4 for some reason and I have good specs, the game is ass, story is ass, characters are souless and lame and the game is such a waste of time, I only played it for achivament tbh because its easy to 100%
