How to use a controller

It constantly gives me the controller not configured notice. When I do so it works but the moment I enter say the options menu on the title screen I can't go back to the title screen menu. When I exit the game and return to it in big picture mode its right back to controller not configured. Can anyone provide me with a list of controls using the keyboard and I can work on manually mapping them from there? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated with this.

from what i've seen, the default keyboard controls are as such:

(Up/Left/Down/Right)
Left Joystick: WASD
Left Stick Click: F
Right Joystick: TRGY
Right Stick Click: H
D-Pad: Up/Left/Down/Right

(referenced to XBox controller)
A: K
B: L
X: J
Y: I
Left Bumper: Q
Left Trigger: U
Right Bumper: E
Right Trigger: O

View Button: N
Menu Button: Enter
