Presented in a top-down view, it drops you right into the dusty Southern town of Red Rock County. Visually, the game has a surprising amount of details and the music is a joy to behold. The characters are also quite memorable and it's easy to keep a mental track of the main players as you peg it from mission to mission.

But then the whole thing just falls flatter than an anorexic pancake. The world is as lifeless as my social life, the story's duller than a Monopoly board game, and the AI is about as clever as a box of rocks. It's like they tried to recreate the magic of Grand Theft Auto, but ended up with something that's more Grand Theft Rubbish.

A big part of American Fugitive is in breaking and entering. When this section kicks in, the view switches to a birds-eye layout of the building. You've got to search each room quick-like, 'cause the bobbies will be after you in no time. If you can leg it before they arrive, you're laughing. But if they catch you, you'll need to shoot your way out. Might as well be doing the bloody washing up.

And the police? Bless 'em, they're utterly useless. You could mow them down with a water pistol and they'd just stand there scratching their heads. Where's the challenge, the tension? It's all as thrilling as a trip to the dentist.

Look, the shooting and driving ain't half bad. And there's loads to love - hidden stashes to find, time trials to complete. With a bit more polish and fleshing out, this could have been a real gem. As it stands, it's a fun way to spend a few hours causing mischief in a Southern town. Not too shabby, I reckon.
