since ants hardly ever die unless you attack or get attacked, you eventually end up with really skewed numbers of ants. for example, after a while one of my colonies had hundreds of princesses even though i only set the princess birth rate to 10%. another had tons of soldiers and could hardly produce enough food to feed itself. If you add a daily death rate to the ants (for example 1%) then there will be a population turnover and if any one group becomes too numerous they will die off and return to whateve...
