Is the free trial enough or do I need the Base Game? Not counting the DLC.
Got the game for my sister since she was playing the free trail for quite some time including all DLCs and all. I am thinking of getting this game and right now it's on a decent sale so I am wondering do I need to get the base game or is the free trail enough?

If you plan on going ranked or playing through the game or want to play specific civs then yes

Dont buy the game, i cant access the base game since the free trial is available. Only lets you play as 3 civilisations at a time until it changes them to another 3.

Buy the game, this is the most complex AOE 3 game, every civilization is unique and fun. Try them all
