At the time of this writing, IMMURE has not been abandoned but it has been put on hold indefinitely.

With IMMURE, we had no financial backing as we were self-publishing and developing the game as a passion project in our spare time so we were really hoping for some level of commercial success. Unfortunately, it did not sell well. We were still hopeful and continued to develop Part 2 but it sold even worse. Eventually, this prompted us to make Part 1 free in an attempt to boost popularity/sales though this did not help much. At this stage, any additional parts we release would only continue to see weaker and weaker sales.

So, basically, IMMURE was a big gamble for us that did not pay off as it was a commercial failure. Though we love making games, we just can't justify continued development on something that will never pay for itself, not to mention the toll its failure had on morale which is vital when everyone is essentially working for free. We have since moved on to other projects in the hopes of getting some cash-flow into the company.

It is unlikely we will ever make another Part though we have tossed around ideas on "completing" the story in some manner over leaving its conclusion in limbo, perhaps in the form of some other media (like a comic or even just a short story). Personally, I was the director and penned the original story so it does really suck to be unable to complete something I poured so much time, effort, and passion into.

Despite all of this, we are all still proud of what we managed to accomplish. It may not be perfect, but what we did manage to get out there was exactly what we wanted to make. Big thanks to everyone who has shown their support (and even those more critical!) as it's always great to see people engaging with IMMURE. Hopefully, we will one day be able to complete Will's story but, until then, it will have to remain as much of a mystery as to how the Sav-uhh Safe Room Guy goes to the bathroom.
