Half done feature: adding songs to playlists
There are playlists and there are songs, but there is a half done feature: no possibility to move/copy/add a song to different playlists from the song view itself. You have to open playlist, choose "add song" and then search for every song separately. The only shortcut is to add the song to Favorites. I would like to add different songs one-by-one to specific playlists like swing, rock, Favorites etc, to use them non stop.

There should be a possibility in the song view to add the song to a playlist (if it's not there already and even if the song is already in Favorites). In the playlist there already is the possibility to remove the song.

Playlist ordering
I have not been able to find a way to order my customized playlist. Is that ability in game, or a planned feature?

It's on my personal wishlist (along with being able to change the difficulty selected)! While you can't do it in game, the playlists are just human-readable .json files, so it is possible to work with them outside of the game in the interim.

Ahh, cool. I will have a look at that. And yeah, being able to set difficulty would be great too...

Is there a way to go to the next song on the playlist without going back to the menu?

Play your playlist using "Play Non Stop" (click on the title of the playlists and you'll see the option). From the pause menu you can then skip to the next song.

It always defaults to 'Normal', right? No way round that?

You need to create a new playlist. The default playlist can't be edited as far as I can tell. Once you've created a playlist, you can edit it in the SynthRiders\playlist directory. Change Difficult to 3 for expert, 4 for master. (If you set it to 4, it will use the highest available difficulty, near as I can tell)

Awesome, thanks!

Yes - I completely agree. Improvements to this functionality are on the worklist.

Please improve the playlist creation experience
Creating a playlist as it right now is so tedious and repetitive. The current process is:
1- Create a new blank playlist
2- Press the "add song" button
3- You will be in a random music pack (probably the one that you don't want to be), so go to the desired music pack or custom songs list
4- Select the song and the difficulty and then press "select song".
5- Now you are back to the playlist. To add another song, go to step 2

The huge problem is: if you want to add a lot of songs, the process is extremely boring and tedious. And every time you will be at the wrong music pack, so you HAVE to go to the correct one and scroll to the position that you had been before. Plus, if you scroll fast, it gets bugged (consistently). It is really annoying.

Pls fix, or give some tool to make this easier.
I love your game, that is the only frustrating thing right now.
Thanks!

Totally agree - while it's on the worklist to fix in the meantime there *is* a tool to help, made by the community and it's excellent: https://synthriderz.com/playlists

If you make yourself an account here, you can upload playlists you've made, create and manage playlists, changing the order and difficulty of songs. You do not need to publish them in order to use them, but you can definitely share playlists and grab playlists from other players here too!

That's great news! Looking forward to it.

Any updates to this wishlisted feature in 2025?

I'm creating a playlist of songs for fitness but can't find any way to put them in the right order (warmup, high intensity, cooldown, etc.)

Aside from the above workaround, has there been any progress on this? (2025)

Creating a playlist is even more convoluted than the last time I played some months ago, before the redesign.

How long will this feature be on the worklist? Your comment is from three years ago.

Unfortunately development priorities shift around a lot in this industry and we have to be very flexible. While this feature is particularly annoying to me and to you, it has had to sit behind other development priorities.

As you can see from our releases, we've been very focused on returning all pre-existing functionality to the updated UI and bringing the Steam version into parity (parity+ as it has extra features not available anywhere else) with our other platforms up on Version 3 of Synth Riders.

The major UI overhaul was focused on improving the first time experience for players and general daily usability for experienced players. Playlists we weren't able to fit into that delivery window - to deliver playlists in the way we want to, it's a very complex piece of UI/UX to rebuild on a very complex UI.

So I'm sorry that we don't have anything to share about playlists at the moment - fortunately we can refer all our Steam players to the community-created playlist management features on Synthriderz.com to upload / create, reorder, download playlists without having to deal with clunkiness of VR. It's such an excellent tool.
