Help with Lickers?
They seem obnoxious to deal with. Run away, they catch up. Shotgun blasts to head, they don't recoil and just leap at you. What am I supposed to do to avoid cheap hits exactly?

Walk. Lickers are blind and use sound to know where you are, which is why they aggro on you when you run or shoot. They will de-aggro when you leave the room; walk upon re-entering to avoid getting jumped.
Walking near them will interest them so they perk up and will follow to investigate, dont panic just keep going and don’t let them touch you so watch out for that tongue of theirs.
Every licker can be avoided in this game with the exception of the one in the medallion room in A run. That’s instantly aggroed, just run away from that one.
If there are any in particular that are giving you trouble, let us know and we’ll help :re2stars:

Walk by them. You can also reset their positions by leaving the room and re-entering. I've only ever had to fight one or two and it was in the basement with the dog cages. The rest can be avoided by walking around them. Alternatively, Claire's fire grenades work well against them.

I can only think of a couple of times the game forces you to fight Lickers honestly. For 99% of them you can just walk by them and they won't aggro you. Now they are programmed to scare you and trick you into reacting such as running away because they will make sounds as if they hear you when you walk by them and will sometimes even follow you. But they will never aggro if you're walking.
This got me a couple of times. I felt super paranoid because the licker was following me, so I ran... just walk past and don't think too much about it. I only felt like I had to kill the basement ones, and even then I'm sure you can get around them if you're careful (I was impatient).

I tried walking and it still heard me. Maybe I need to walk very slowly?
No.

Just walking without using the run button is fine, as long as you don't touch it or it isn't in aggro mode by default, which only the one in the 3F storage room is.

Could take some time to get used to, but once you do, you can reach the point of being "lore accurate" and just knife it to death or completely ignore them.

If you get in a bad narrow spot where you think you gonna touch it, just do like the other sp mentioned above and exit and reenter the room to reset their positions.

You can walk at a steady pace just below running and it won’t aggro. As long as you didnt barge into the room, you didnt shoot in the room, touch the licker or pre aggro the licker, you can sneak on by.

They make a noise of interest when you are nearby that, like another said, is meant to startle you into running away.

Is it a certain licker thats hearing you? And which scenario are you playing?

like they said you can walk by them, or throw a flash grenade

Its the one that appears in the c4 room where you get one of the medallions. I guess it auto-knows my presence.

This one you can't walk past, it spawns with aggression enabled already.

just walk... if you sprint through a door it will hear you instantly...wait a bit and walk again.
Walk and don't run, always use them flashbangs on the lickers.

If you have enough frames your knife becomes your best friend especially if you want to stock up on shotgun shells, just slowly walk up to a Licker that is on the floor (yes, they need to be on the floor, otherwise you just get bombarded with attacks) then pull your knife out and aim it in a way that both of the hit boxes of said knife connect on the to Licker to repeatedly stun-lock the sucker and you pretty have it done in no time.
use a flashbang this will stop them and allow you to continue or as others have said walk very slowly
Claire can take them out with one flame round depending on how things are going. Leon has a bit more trouble, so you may want to focus on sneaking past them, or abusing the knife stunlock for an easy kill.
I found flashbang+knife to work well againts them while you slash them from behind.

But not sure if it works on too low fps.(knife dmg....)
