Many haters just wanted Shenmue 3 to be a Yakuza clone with Ryo beating 500 enemies in the whole game.

Hope they don't turn Shenmue 4 into a Yakuza clone.(If they ever make that game)

I really hope we get a Shenmue 4

Ysnet has some projects brewing, so it's interesting to see what they can come up with next.

As much as I love Cyberpunk/PL, had to take a break as sidemissions began to pile up. Shenmues (all three of them) are such a great inbetween- games, easy to pick up, just chill and chip away over time.

The core gameplay loop works, and I'd prefer smaller, more detailed maps with a greater variety of locations over your typical open-world single landmass any day.

Always up for more Shenmue, but if they have to compromise too much, it would be cool to have the entire story told as originally intended in some other format.
Anime started great, but got stuck between some ass backwards corporate shenanigans, i've heard

While I will always miss the NPC simulation and specific combat system of S1 & 2, I still enjoyed S3.

I have my critiques about it, don't get me wrong. The tedium of the trading game-esque quest you have to complete, the fact that it doesn't really move the story forward substantially, and the aforementioned two things I loved most about the first two games not quite being there in the same ways they were before. And I certainly understand it not being for everyone, even some diehard Shenmue fans.

But for me, once I wrapped my head around the fact that it was not going to feature those things, and that I just had to accept it on its own merits, I relaxed into it and it just became a very chill, cozy, methodical exploration of a visually pleasing world, with a couple of characters I've loved for decades. And the new combat and training system, while very comparatively simple, does become a fun little exercise and routine in itself.

It's a bit like another Kickstarted game I enjoyed but that it took me a while to click with, that being Dreamfall Chapters, in that its departures from its predecessors took time for me to get used to, but I ultimately ended up loving it. That's how I feel about S3 as well.

got it when it came out...still enjoy playing it..love the relaxing "do what you want" vibe...
I dont know how many times I caught myself doing whatever I wanted in the arcade ,working on the dock..training and such..and still managed to straight faced tell Shenua at the end of the day that I "looked diligently for clues about her father.." haha so sad. A kidnapped guy whos life is in danger,takes a backseat to the choices you can make to occupy yourself..

I wanted Shenmue III or rather the whole series be a complete experience each game, but no, Yu had to go and say that the 3rd game brought the whole story so far to 40% complete and he wanted as many sequels as there are Fast & Furious movies. Not kidding he wanted to have 10 games total spanning the entire main story line.

I’ve been very critical of the game but it comes from a place of tough love. I still enjoy 3 for what it is.
