I got most of the part done but I can't make the "grappling" end work. I tried using a small docking port but it seems you "can't grab onto yourself" the docking ports seems to not stick onto another port that is part of your same craft. So how do you "grab" things?...

especially when You are using vizzy to do a space-x style boost back of first stage, I discovered that the other part of craft stops working when out of range. That is, If I'm controlling the booster, Even if I set the second stage rocket's vizzy to "set throttle to 100% and hold prograde heading", It will only obay that command for a short time before it accelerates out of physics range. And once I finish the booster landing, I discover the second stage to be on a suborbital trajectory with it's engine ...
