This reminds me of "Colt Canyon" another awesome game that i was hooked from first few minutes of gameplay. The devs of that game had the same "perma death by default" mindset.
For a long time the game didnt have save feature, you were supposed to loose all progress when you exit the game. Over time users asked and asked for it then they added save progress (but still permadeath) then eventually added option to replay last chapter.
This game hopefully will do the same, while i totally appreciate the reasons they mention (and those are true : its more fulfilling if you beat the game the hard way) but not everyone is a hardcore player and some just want less of a stress/hard experience.
I'll buy the full thing on release, even without saves (save scumming with files is always a thing).
