Why didn't they just replace the PS2 cutscenes with the GameCube ones instead of AI upscaling them?
I know they wouldn't be HD but since they would have been an upgrade from the PS2 cutscenes, that would have been enough and everyone would have been pleased about it. Instead of doing that, Engine made the cutscenes look worse than the originals for no reason whatsoever. This whole situation was completely avoidable.

Most studios for games and animation in Japan pre-2000 usually would throw every part of the production away or if they did preserve it, they took no steps to actually care for the media they were preserving. As this is from around the time they started to change that attitude, a lot of productions were kinda haphazardly deciding what got tossed and what didn't, which is to say it's probable but not necessarily confirmed that they may have thrown out whatever official data they had for the GC release and only had the PS2 cutscenes available.

They could have still used the video files on the disk. In fact in the steam guides, you can find people who have already done that. I'm aware the company still wouldn't have the assets needed to properly remaster them, but that isn't what I was asking for.
