I have gotten in touch with the author of the original Time Tenshi and with the author of the Time Tenshi remake. They each have their own takes on why the BE was removed from the remake.

The BE removal also coincided with an extremely dodgy and suspicious failed Kickstarter and complete lack of communication and transparency from Silver Cow Studios on all lines of contact and social media accounts. Which for an indie studio banking on trust, is not good.

To summarize it, he believes Silver Cow was preying on a niche community to build up clout, and now has ditched this community that helped them get where they are because they feel they no longer need that stepping stone.

His reasons for removing the BE remain muddled and unclear, almost to the point of seeming deliberately obtuse. The best I can gather, he felt he was not a good enough expansion author to give Time Tenshi a good story and deep characters while the BE was still present. But since he did not admit that his own lack of belief in his skills was the reason for the decision, I question this interpretation, even if it's the best I can figure from his explanations. The fact he believes that all the reviews are just simply "no BE, it automatically sucks" and is refusing to acknowledge the more nuanced problems with his decision also makes it difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt on having good intentions behind his decision.

Contradicting himself a bit, the author of this game also claims the removal of the BE wasn't his call, but remains mum on the actual reason for it.

Silver Cow Studios has ignored any and all questions about any of their decisions regarding Time Tenshi. Any attempts I have made to contact them have been fruitless. All in all, this is not a good look for the company, and their lack of explanation is not helping. Perhaps they should hire someone to handle their PR...
