This is pretty good.Most things are like EU but the pops system makes it very different.

Always play vaniila first.This is the developers vision and balanced.You can try mods later.

1. It's EUIV with characters and faster paced.
2. Rome and Egypt.
3. Vanilla.

1) it has some similar mechanics but it won't help you adjust though. Go with open mind.

2) APart from Rome it's Egypt, Seleukids and especially Maurya, but if you want a small nations far from big bois, it's also Opone, Hadhramaut, Irish, British and scandinavian tribes, and to some extent Tarim Basin. Especially for converting to Yuezhi.

3) vanilla, of course, those pseudo-latin mods are not overhaul and are bad.

Bought this and the DLCs during the big sale around Thanksgiving, I have several questions.
1) Since im coming from EU4 and a tiny bit of CK2 (like, only able to play in Ireland), how similar is Imperator
2) What are good vids and noob nations to play in order to learn, like the equivalent of Ottomans for EU4 players.
3) Should I play Vanilla or should I just go straight into an overhaul mod like Invictus

1: Couldnt say, since I havent ever played EU4 it would be foolish of me to write about something I have not tried.
2: I recommend a powerful nation and maybe tuning down difficulty level to learn how the game goes. There are many things the game does not warn you about and you have to learn on your own or look for info on the web.
Minor, tribal nations are fun, but for a first time it is ill adviced since it wont be as dynamic as playing with a more poweful nation. Also, you can get wiped out soon if neughboring a belicose powerful nation (looking at you, romans)
3. You should play both and make your own mind about it. I stick to Invictus after more than 1000 hours and having played both for hundreds of hours.

Coming from EU4 (which i loved) straight into Invictus Mod is what i recommend. and add base loyalty mod for like +15. civil war possibility still an issue but not constant thorn in your side. for nations, i started with one of the British tribes for my first few hours to try the game out. Now playing Rome ironman style and really enjoying role playing it a bit, trying to be quasi realistic and not "gamey" as i expand using mission trees and my own agenda. Imperator Rome is a lot like EU4, but more ancient style and the emphasis is on bringing back the spoils of conquest to your capitol and lots of trade routes for the national boosts etc. Imperator does a good job of simulating and incentivizing the player to build an empire the Roman way...
