Hey I don't own the game on PC sorry, but I am a Linux gamer. Have you tried switching to any different version of Proton yet to see if it fixes the issue?

On ProtonDB, someone else reported the same issue on the Steam Deck 9 months ago here https://www.protondb.com/app/846870?device=steamDeck. Their post is the second from the top (at the time of writing) and apparently the only workaround they found at the time was to dock the Steam Deck and hook up an external controller, because the glitch seemed to occur due to the Decks built-in controller. Once they got through either the tutorial or level 1, the game stopped crashing in handheld mode.

The person who had the game work perfectly for them at the top of the list was from 6 months ago. They used a popular version of Proton called Proton-GE, so if install that, you it might fix the issue for you.

i tried with ps4 and nintendo pro controller, doesnt work anyway.
