First thing you should know, every touhou game so far released on steam that isnt:

or Antinomy of Common Flowers

are all fan games. This one in particular is more of a YS clone so take that of what you will.

They are made up stories but generally speaking they are still reasonable within the boundaries of the lore itself.

The thing to keep in mind is Touhou as a main series is pretty simple, if long-running. However there is a huge running culture (as evidenced by all the fan-games being uploaded onto Steam and Nintendo Switch lately) that extends the series a lot farther than just the games themselves.


Having played this I will say I will say it is pretty new player friendly, though you might miss some in-humor along the way (which is unavoidable when you are just getting used to the series).

I would recommend getting more familiar with Touhou overall to fully enjoy the game, most of fangames are made by fans, for fans.

This game has a lot of fun dialogue and is actually a quite good depiction of Gensokyo. Along with this, the game is very easy unless you are self-imposing a challenge, meaning that I think Scarlet Curiosity would be a good introduction to the series for newcomers (besides well, actually playing one of the official Touhou games).

I think it might be a better introduction than the official games themselves. The world has been built slowly over years and this game combines a lot of that together into one, accessible and interconnected package.
