The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

Was this last great Dontnod game?
I really enjoyed both LiS1 and Captain Spirit, but then when LiS2 came out everyone was criticizing it harshly, and later seemingly company went downhill since then (compared to Remember Me/LiS/Captain Spirit days).

And I almost dont encounter people talking about Tell Me Why/Twin Mirror/Harmony/Jusant. Are they such unmemorable/unpopular or just pale in comparison with their "magnum opus"? I havent played their more recent stuff cause i havent upgraded my PC yet, but tell me your stories if you want, whether you enjoyed or disliked them.

Also should I give a chance to LiS2 finally? I really loved first game AND Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, but never touched anything else (still havent played Before the Storm, and also not very interested in True Colours).

Upcoming Lost Records: Bloom & Rage seems curious though, as an idea (though I dont understand if we will be playing as 40 yo characters or it will be a mixture).

Twin Mirror seems to be okay (6/10), but Tell Me Why is just terribly boring - feels like 8-hour movie shot in frozen Alaska. I agree that Captain Spirit was the last game with look and feel of the original LiS - a small town setting, a murder mystery, a pair of strangers coming into town, and the story begins... Sadly, instead of a worthy successor of LiS1 we got LiS2 in which awful amount of time is wasted on political sloganeering.

Dontnod always used to experiment and does pretty unique games.
So looking at their history the hat quite a variety of games, and not all of them were successful.

So every new game is a new experience

Hmmm yeah even their debut was pretty experimental.

I didn't even know they made anything else after "Tell Me Why", I never heard anything about Twin Mirror, Harmony or Jusant. I played Remember Me, LiS, TMW, CS and LiS2 and honestly, LiS is the only good game they made.
Remember Me had a good concept but the execution was no fun. TMW was pretty boring and the ending was dumb, thank god I got it for free. CS was also pretty boring for me. LiS2 missed the mark by not giving the characters besides the brothers time for development, for the player to get to know and like them, they just show up for one episode max and disappear again. And then there was the terrible political black & white messaging of "right wing bad" and "left wing good".

Added it to my wishlist too. Looks interesting, kinda all-girl re-cast of "Stand By Me" or "It"

https://www.gamesradar.com/life-is-stranges-director-always-wanted-to-take-the-universe-further-but-says-square-enix-was-in-charge-of-that/

"For Life is Strange 1 we were working with Square Enix [...] and at first there was no plan at all to have more than one game."

"It means that we never wrote the story and the characters while having in mind anything that could happen to them after the end of the game," the director explains.

"When the game was a success, Square Enix asked us for a second game," Koch adds. "We managed to fit Life is Strange 2 within the same universe, and even to create interesting links." He then says that due to the first game being written as a "complete story," the developer felt like "we were never able to fully create intricate and complex connections and follow-ups between the games."

Although extremely grateful to Square Enix for "believing in the project in the first place," Koch says he "would have loved to have more free reins to draft where all the characters and various plot would go," beyond the two games in the series. However, as Square Enix owns the rights and the IP, it's up to them what gets made.

"[Square Enix] planned and supervised the expansion, they hired Deck Nine to make other games within the franchise alongside ours, they found authors to write the comics, and crafted their own plan for this universe," the director explains.

I just saw Stand By Me for the first time on Netflix. That was exactly what I was thinking that the game looks like that.

Hm.

Cautiously optimistic about this one - looks like they try to focus on Twilight Zone/Twin Peaks/Butterfly Effect/whatever (sorry i cant remember "right" movie analogy).

I played Tell Me Why before Life Is Strange and to me they are both basically the exact same level of amazing. Probably just a natural consequence of a company putting out a series of great but vaguely similar games; there is not going to be as much hype as things progress

I wonder how Lost Records will end up, especially considering how Double Exposure was met...

It will be released next week (Feb 18th) I'm totally thrilled, especially, after slogging through the Double Exposure - what's a dog's breakfast of a game they made out of once great franchise.
