Just an update for anyone curious - the game still has it.

But why? It's a free demo. Since Denuvo isn't a one-size-fits-all system and is custom made for each individual product it's wrapped around....they would have actually had to PAY to protect a free release...

Don't ask me... there's plenty of games that still have it despite them being cracked or even games that are Denuvo-free on other sites and yet still have it on Steam. Anti-consumer DRM like Denuvo hurts their sales and maybe more importantly their reputation which not only hurts the sales of their current products but future products as well.

Steam is its own DRM. So in effect the game is covered by two DRM's. This sort of behavior causes problems in its own right.

Yes, but the point I'm making is this. The main argument publishers give for using Denuvo is that is protects first week sales. Since every installation of Denuvo is customised, there is no one-size-fits-all decrypter that the pirates can use, so it at least gives them a few days head start before it gets leaked.

But that argument doesn't work for demos. Which are SUPPOSED to be given out and shared. Why would you pay to protect something that you want people to share?

Maybe they were too 'lazy' to separate the demo's code from the main game's code. Of course it's also a possibility that the demo was a 'test' of sorts to see how effective Denuvo would be. Honestly no idea though because having Denuvo at all is plain idiotic and anti-consumer.

THREAD NECRO :octavia:

They almost certainly will never remove it for two main reasons;

1.) Principled stance by them for their own "political" reasons. :steamfacepalm:
2.) The Denuvo payment was not a subscription type, so no ongoing cost. :steamsad:
