Is there only one shotgun in the game? So far I've only unlocked a sawed off. I haven't tried it out yet I've been using a gun called the spreader I think it's been pretty great.

According to metrics (how people use the weapons), thankfully that's not the case. It is right in the middle of the pack.

If you find a weapon you want to run with instead, I'd recommend trying to find some boosts that alter the weapon to either play on its strengths and/or round out its weaknesses.

My personal favorites are the Photon, the Lightning gun, the Split Laser and the Six Shooter.

My guess would be that it is the "strongest" out the gate without specialization. I felt similar when I got it initially so I presume it just has a higher power floor than other weapons.

Thanks for the feedback y'all! I'll try finding some boosts for the acidy gun because it seems to be pretty good too but my farthest runs have definitely been with the regular shotgun.

I'm going triple shot with shot gun it's so broken

I mained shotgun and was basically invincible the whole game.
The weapon balance was terrible on release.

Since the recent update, the pea gun can be VERY OP with the right boosts. I got one of the achievements for beating a boss in under 45 seconds using it. Felt gud

Alien Blaster was already very strong for being the starter weapon, and now that its main weakness (lack of range) was removed, it is incredible regardless of whether you have lots of boosts or not. Just that it will require a lot of rapid inputs.

As for Shotgun, after the balance patch that nerfed its damage, I feel like it is no longer "OP", it's just ok. The balance of a lot of guns is surprisingly good for their respective roles.
