Except you can't hold your Steam Deck vertically and rub the screen!

It gives me a black screen when I try to play story mode. Haven't been able to play any story, only survival.

You have to use GE-Proton 9-3 for cutscenes to work, due to a video codec licensing issue. That is often the case with older Koei Tecmo games sadly.

Boot your Steam Deck in Desktop mode, download ProtonUp-Qt from Discover, and once it is loaded you can add specific Proton GE versions. Once added, reboot into game mode and assign that specific Proton to DOA6 via the Compatibility menu.

I have just tested this and it works great on the latest SteamOS - make sure it is GE-Proton 9-3, I tested the newest GE releases and they do not make Story mode work.
