Why did the game failed?
I can see that the game is not good but I can't pinpoint why

because of the unbalance caused by DLC. Plus this game can't watch replays.

tbh i feel like this game never really took off
i got the game around when it first came out and paid retail price only time I was able to play a game was joining the community discord server other then that only other time would be when the game had a free weekend when the dlc came out with the new faction it was really overpowered since it was mainly flying and air vehicles which non of the other factions had my take with this game is i enjoy it well enjoyed it since i dont play anymore but everytime i wanna play it always has to be with a bot since u cant find a game with real people.

Part of the problem was how it was received during EA and at launch. Basically, a lot of people were complaining and comparing the game to Company of Heroes. They pretty much created an Anti-Hype Train and posted negative reviews and comments about how the game is just a cheap, unbalanced, knock off of Company of Heroes. So that basically started to really drag the game down...

It also didn't help that there were actually balance problems that became a major issue when the Operation Eagle DLC dropped and they added new units. For most maps, Usonia is straight better Early Game; which allows a good player to snowball. The new Air Units also upset balance since they can be extremely strong and force building certain units just to counter them. So it really threw what little competitive multiplayer there was into a tailspin.

That's not to say the game is unplayable or you can't counter Usonia/Air units... It just makes it a chore and in a "same skill level matchup" a Usonia player has a natural advantage.

the easiest answer as to why the game feels so dead now is the utter stupid idea to not have a server/lobby browser. this would massively fix the issue. sure ranked would be dead but its already dead

It failed to live up to the expectations. A lot of people expected IH to be "the one", the game that would be equal or better than those who came before it and bring back the golden age of RTS games. Unfortunately it failed to live to those expectations, and while the game itself is pretty good (much better than trash like Homeworld 3) the balance problems, general lack of depth plus performance issues, combined with a rather steep launch price, made ppl give up on the game early on, hence why it never took off

I started playing this game before the DLC, and it was favorite RTS game. The slugging matches you would get in with the factions unique mechs was very cool, and each match felt very dynamic, with alot of skill expression through manipulating terrain for cover. After the DLC came out, every game basically came down to who could micromanage their air-bikes and gunships the best. This also made the phenomenal map design irrelevant because everyone just flew over it. At least, that's my opinion for why it died:TYCog:

imho they hyped the hell out of this game, gave it a smug price tag, and then when you actually play it it was just kinda meh.. huge potential but the gameplay was a let down
