You can issue an attack move and units will attack anything along their path/range and if they are attacked outside their range, they will typically go after whatever they attacked. However, you need to be careful since they can easily get kited or pulled away from your intended path.
So, you may want to start having control groups (CTRL+number) so you can quickly jump to your units and respond accordingly. Alternatively, you could try lowering the difficulty if you are being overwhelmed handling multiple fronts until you get more accustomed to the gameplay/etc,
