Am I very stupid or is this game extremely difficult even on medium difficulty?
I am playing through the campaign, and I have made it to the German chapters and I am on the mission where you have to hold a line for 3 waves and then go destroy artillery pieces.

The game gives you a unit cap of 45, and its not even enough to man the defenses, let alone send a group off to go attack through the enemy positions to take out 3 separate defended artillery pieces. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, or why this game can;t give me a break, but as soon as I barely make it out of defending against the 3 waves with my tiny force, the enemy then starts sending attacks at me that were even BIGGER than the original 3 waves and i STILL have the measly 45 unit cap, which is essentially two tanks, a couple engineers to repair and build, and like 5 various infantry units.

The enemy AI covering the entire map pretty much, and as soon as the objective switches to "Go take out the enemy artillery pieces on the other side of the map" the AI starts throwing groups at me is like 3x my own population cap and all I can do is watch my ♥♥♥♥ get rocked.

This feels utterly impossible.

There are some really stupid secondary objectives, I will admit. Even on the easiest difficulty many, especially in the later campaigns, are absurdly difficult.

ah that mission - yeah its doable, the gimmick is that you basically have to send some kamikaze attacks with tanks just straight to the artillery before the enemy defenders can move over to where they are, and use the freed-up pop cap to build troops for defence as they die.

if i remember right i think the attacks stop after the artillery is gone? might be wrong but even then itll be the same idea as the artillery.

I lost the 1st time, and won the 2nd time.

The 2nd time, I build bunkers at the choke holds (one at your base entrance to the north and two bunkers in the middle portion of the map).

Crewed them with machine gunners and made the bunkers HE explosive ones. Then, hold the line for a while until you can get a feel of them. Make sure you have Engineers to repair your bunkers.

Then build some cheaper units like Isegrims and Grimbats. Then with Brunhilde, slowly advance forward at the left most part of the map. Use infantry on the right side.

Slow advance, and surely you will win.

Coincidentally I just completed this mission and came on here to see if anyone else had any thoughts on it. I basically used lots of Wotans backed up by machine gunners and engineers. I think Wotans have a longer range than line of sight so my infantry gave them a bit more ability to destroy the rocket mechs from a distance, and I just kind of rushed them, using my infantry as a distraction. Also, you can use your Wotans defensively before attacking the artillery to get them to rank up which helps.

I've definitely noticed a difficulty spike in the campaign since maybe the final Rusviet mission. :shockedstar2022:

That would be an absolute last resort. Luckily on the penultimate mission of the campaign I've not had to do that yet :happy_creep:

They use the spawn out of world for every mission so it becomes bs at times.
Even tho I took out their base they spawn mechs.

I played the whole game on easy because it has been obvious for a long time that it is not well balanced and buggy. Even at this level, some missions were not easy. I have noticed different things that the enemy is getting soldiers or reinforcements out of nowhere and that some levels really have a different balance. If the level is only with soldiers and a hero, then the hero is much stronger than a level with a base. The other thing is that the game has no achievements for the level of difficulty and in general for missions and I don't know if there are any for the skins. Technically, almost everything is skirmish and defense.
